Note from Anne
Thank you, Judy for your message of remembrance for Faye Hall. It was not my privilege to know her very well, but I did know about the bridge lessons. And, yes, it was in the paper, the AJC and was in one of the scrapbooks that I inherited when I began research for "A History of Mu Rho Sigma." Those scrapbooks and all memorabilia, anything having to do with Mu Rho Sigma Sorority is on file in the Woman's Division within the Georgia State University Library. We were pleased when they wanted ALL of our records because we were unique among sororities and probably unique in having a sister who was a champion bridge player! Also, it is significant that from those lessons, a long time partnership grew between Faye and Mary Childs, also deceased. Again, thanks, Anne Larcom

Comment from Judy Baer on the loss of Faye
Faye used to teach bridge lessons to us in the MRS room during the 10:00 to 10:30 break. We'd sit on the floor (we didn't have much furniture) while she instructed us and commented on our play. She was an excellent and inspiring instructor. The Atlanta Constitution did an article on her teaching us and even put a large picture with it. That was my favorite way to spend those 30 minutes.

Faye was born in Dalton, GA, and following graduation from Dalton High School she attended the University of Georgia and then moved to Atlanta, where she finished her Bachelor of Arts degree at Georgia State College. Anyone who knew Faye loved her, and she was well-known for her wit, dedication to her family and sarcastic sense of humor. She loved sports of all kinds, particularly golf, and was a member of the Berkeley Hills Country Club. She also played award-winning bridge, and held the designation of "Life Master." She was a rabid University of Georgia football fan. Per her specific request, no memorial service will be held. Faye leaves behind her father, James Oliver Thomas and his wife Dorothy (Ruddell) Thomas of Calhoun, GA; her mother Carrie Mildred (Ellis) Williams, of Dalton GA; her only daughter, Ashley Hall (Christopher) Mestl of Mount Vernon, NY and her beloved grandchildren: Connor Andrew Mestl and Cameron Avery Mestl of Mount Vernon, NY.

News from Deirdre
I used to skate when I was a kid, but I never placed above 3rd in any competition. Many of you know that due to multiple knee surgeries, I thought I would never skate again. Well, I returned to skating when my then 2 year old wanted to skate and it felt so good and right to be back out there that I've hardly stopped skating since.
Now I've been back on the ice for almost 2 years. Since returning to the ice as an adult, I've been in 17 competition events. I've placed in the top 6 or better in all of them.
1 sixth place
1 fifth place
1 fourth place
2 third place (Bronze)
3 second place (Silver)
9 first place (Gold)
I have a wonderful coach (who teaches communications at Georgia State University, by the way) and a very supportive family. There are three more big competitions coming up this season, one of which is the Showcase (Theatre on Ice) National Event in Massachuettes in August and should be loads of fun.
Anyway, just wanted to catch up and let ya'll know what's been going on in my life. It is so important to find something that makes you light up and keep doing it. No matter what. Keep at it. I'm not the best adult skater out there, but skating makes me happy and is keeping me fit and healthy, and that's important.
Love you ladies!

Check to Georgia State
April 26, LaVerne Miller and Anne Larcom returned to Ga State for the purpose of meeting with Mr. Massey and presenting him with a check for $5,126.41. He was pleased and so were we because this represents all the monies in our combined treasury-the Board of Trustees and the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter. So we are out of the Treasury/money business, a goal we all shared. That sum was added to the amount, $25,000, that we already have with the Foundation. (You do the math...) It will probably not be reflected in this year's MPE Scholarship Award in that it will not be reflected in the over all investment for the year. To each one of you: Thank You for your part you have contributed--in money, yard sales or other forms of fund-raising. Our scholarship goes back a long way. We are proud of it and it will insure that the name of Mu Rho Sigma will live as long as there is a Georgia State University.
